Here I am, where are you.....

Image
Here I am, where are you..... Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Over and over all day long he keeps asking where I am. The Red-eyed vireo calls continuously and can still be hard to see clearly. He is sitting in a tulip tree, so called because of the shape of the leaves. Have a good weekend.

Far too tense

Far too tense Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Tense: stretched tight; strained; taut; feeling, showing, or causing mental strain; anxious I think Crash may be settling in although he looks a little tense.

When cross breeding gets out of hand.

When cross breeding gets out of hand. Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur I know we have bird dogs, cat fish, catbirds, cow birds and peafowl among others, but I think it may have gotten out of hand. What would you name this crossbreed?

A bat in the gazebo

Image
A bat in the gazebo Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur I don't have a belfry, so we had to settle for the gazebo. We have a screened gazebo in the yard and thhis morning we had a bat hanging around. It seems to be fine but I will check with the park naturalist just in case. I don't know the species. I don't know much about bats except that they eat insects and are good for the environment. And, no, they don't get caught in your hair.

Exhaustion

Image
Exhaustion Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Exhaustion - extremely tired or weak state: a state of extreme physical or mental tiredness or collapse Lots os sun, sand and surf (sort of- this is Lake Erie) makes for a tired boy. My great nephew is visiting Canada from New Zealand. They came down to Rondeau for 2 days and he wore himself out. After digging the hole he found out he had to fill it in again for safety reasons. He is used to the tide removing any holes, sand castles etc

Waiting for home delivery

Image
Waiting for home delivery Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur The pizza place is quicker than this. The young wrens are stating to look out of the nest box as they wait for their parents to provide home delivery of their next meal. This was taken through a window.

I like birds...

Image
I like birds... Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur fried, baked, broasted..... I'm not sure how this map turtle ended up with a feather in its mouth but you have to wonder what it had for dinner. Have a good weekend.

Oh, come on! It's an oriole feeder.

Image
Oh, come on! It's an oriole feeder. Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Every bird, except the orioles seems to feed at the oriole feeder. Downey, hairy and red bellied woodpeckers, humming birds even a cat bird and a chipmunk feed on this nectar. Meanwhile the orioles are eating grapes and jam.

Bunny overload

Image
Bunny overload Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur This is a bumper year for rabbits in our yard. Every size you can think of, from small to very large. The young are fairly tame and if you are slow and gentle they can be picked up. Just for a minute, then off to wash up as the bunnies could have fleas and ticks.

On the ball

Image
On the ball Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Can you stand on the ball? 35C and the kids are cooling off.

Canadian cactus

Image
Canadian cactus Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur Many people think of Canada as a place of trees and ice, which we have. However, we get hot weather as well. Prickly pear cactus grows in Southern Ontario at Point Pelee National Park and Rondeau Provincial Park.Southern Ontario is at the same latitude as northern California. These are growing next to our cottage.

Male Rose breasted Grosbeak

Image
Male Rose breasted Grosbeak Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur The colours have faded significantly on the males now that the spring breeding season is over. Still a striking bird. Lots of them around feeding their young. Also feeding young are: white breasted nut hatches, robins, cardinals, various woodpeckers, grackles and chipping sparrows.

Why yes, it is an oriole feeder.

Image
Why yes, it is an oriole feeder. Originally uploaded by ricmcarthur We have a lot of young downey woodpeckers around right now. They are mobbing every feeder we have. They don't discriminate between seed feeders and nectar feeders. Anything will do when you're hungry. The hummingbirds get really annoyed when the downies use their feeders.
